The Swedish Government proposes new rules on merger control

On 21 February 2008, the Swedish Government (the “Government”) submitted a proposal for a new Competition Act (the “Proposal”) to the Council on Legislation for consideration. The Proposal contains a number of amendments, inter alia, to the Swedish merger control rules. The amendments are proposed to enter into force on November 1st 2008. This article will introduce the main amendments of the Swedish merger control rules, in particular to rules related to the definition of concentration, the substantive test and the notification require-ments.
