Miguel joined Vieira de Almeida in 2011 and is partner in the Competition & EU area of practice. He is also active in the field of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights, Electronic Communications and Media, namely advising leading companies in collective management issues, content provision contracts and new media regulation. Lecturer at the University of Lisbon Faculty of Law in EU Law (undergraduates) and Competition Law (postgraduates). Between 2006 and 2008 he was Lead Legal Adviser at the Portuguese Competition Authority. Previously, he held the position of Référendaire (Legal Secretary) in the cabinet of Judge Martins Ribeiro at the Court of First Instance in Luxembourg, after having worked for 4 years at the Media Unit of DG Competition handling anti-trust and merger cases. Between 1997 and 200 he was Head of Legal Affairs of the then largest Portuguese media group (Lusomundo). He was partner at Abreu Advogados (2008 to 2011) and also worked in a private practice from 1992 to 1996 at a Lisbon based law firm, where he qualified as a lawyer. Miguel has a law degree from the Lisbon University, an LL.M in European Law from the College of Europe, Bruges, and an LL.M in European Legal Sciences from the Lisbon University. He is fluent in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Miguel is a member of IBA (International Bar Association). Founding Member of Círculo dos Advogados Portugueses do Direito da Concorrência (CAPDC).
