Michel Waelbroeck was born in Geneva, Switzerland, 22 November 1932. He his Doctor of Law from the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and has a Master of Political Science (ULB) and a LL.M. in international Law from the New York University. Michel Waelbroeck was a member of Brussels Bar since 1958 until 1998 and Professor (ULB) since 1966 until 1998. Professor Waelbroeck was Visiting professor at New York University Law School and Michigan University Law School, 1969-1970, European University Institute, Florence, 1981, and Parker School of International and Comparative Law, Columbia University, New York, 1980-1989. He is a former President of the Belgium "Commission de la concurrence". Professor Waelbroeck has written numerous books and articles on International Law and on Community Law, in particular on the Common Market Rules of Competition.He is the director of the “Commentaire Mégret”, an authoritative commentary on the law of the European Union. He is co-author (with Aldo Frignani) of Volume IV (Competition Law) and (with D. Waelbroeck, J.-V. Louis and G. Vandersanden) of Volume X (Court of Justice and Acts of the Institutions). M. Waelbroeck is a member of the Institute of International Law.
